The Kite Escapes

Junior and his best friend, Fatima, spent all Saturday morning building a kite out of colored paper, thin sticks, and a long piece of string. When they finally launched it into the sky, it soared higher than either of them expected.

"Look at it go!" shouted Fatima, gripping the string tightly. But just then, a strong gust of wind tugged the string right out of her hands. The kite tumbled and spun, then caught the wind again and sailed away over the rooftops.

"We have to catch it!" Junior said, already running. Fatima laughed and chased after him, and together they dashed down the dusty street, following the bright shape as it dipped and swirled above them.
